IT STARTED MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO...
It was 1960 and Swedish student Bertil Hult had spent years struggling with dyslexia. Unsure of his future, he moved to London for work. After only a few short months, he was fluent in English—a feat he never thought possible.
That discovery inspired Bertil to launch EF Education First in 1965—a company built on experiential learning, cultural immersion and authentic connections. This experience is at the core of our educational philosophy. Click the link below for much, much more.

Wondering if student travel is "worth it?"

Student travel? An extravagance?
Michelle Obama would disagree. The video to the left offers a unique perspective on the value of student travel. Our students are often caught in a situation where they want to go, but due to economic circumstances, are afraid and unwilling to ask their family. |
A typical day on tour is FAR from "typical."
Our days are long--always packed with activity, but always allowing "free time" wherever we are for the students to explore. As advisors, our observations in Spain were that early in the tour, students tended to want to explore with us; in our final days, they broke into peer groups (always with a partner!) and explored on their own! It was magical seeing them gain confidence to interpret subway maps and travel on their own, to find their own lunch spots, take their selfies everywhere they went (!), and interact with the people around them in a reasonably safe manner.
Note our Tour Director, Africa P., always provided her cell number, and we made sure the kids all had it in their money belts in the event they got lost or needed help. You can see from these two sample schedules that EF Tours is extremely well-organized, and the tours offer a lot for the money! Not to embellish the point, but many of our kids report feeling nervous walking home from school. So, to see them navigate cities like Madrid and Barcelona on their own without worry, was an amazing statement on the comfort level on tour vis a vis in East San Jose! |
Co-advisor Sr. Cabrera in Barcelona's world famous Parc Guell with Africa Palacios, our esteemed and tireless Tour Director. With EF Tours, we have a dedicated, local guide with us every step of the way, "from airport to airport," in addition to correspondence prior to the trip asking questions ranging from dietary restrictions to group activity preferences.
